Given the right ingredients - heavy strings, a guitar tuned down a semitone, a cranked valve amp and a confident right hand - they'll happily deliver those huge, expressive Texas-inspired tones that have inspired generations of players.
But that raised an interesting question:
What if you could capture some of that authority and dynamic punch from a guitar set up for the rest of us?
What if your favourite Strat-style guitar wore a regular set of 10s, stayed in standard tuning, and still retained that bold, piano-like response without sacrificing the sparkle, clarity and touch sensitivity that make vintage single coils so addictive?
That simple question became the genesis of Crossfire.
Sharing the same late-1950s DNA as our acclaimed Timeless '59 pickups, Crossfire retains everything we love about a truly great vintage single coil: shimmering highs, expressive mids and the unmistakable snap that only a hand-wound pickup can deliver. Through countless hours of listening, refining and testing, we've carefully evolved the design to produce stronger note fundamentals, greater authority and an even more balanced response across all six strings.
The result is a pickup set that feels remarkably alive beneath your fingers.

Built the Traditional Way
Like every Eternal pickup, Crossfire is built entirely by hand using traditional materials and techniques.
Each coil is individually scatter wound using Heavy Formvar wire onto vintage-correct fibre flatwork with carefully selected Alnico V magnets. Before winding, every assembled bobbin is traditionally lacquer dipped, insulating and stabilising the magnetic pole pieces using the same time-honoured process employed during the golden age of American pickup manufacture.
Traditional cloth push-back lead wire and light black wax potting complete a pickup that is every bit as dependable as it is expressive.
Thoughtful Refinement
Crossfire's personality comes from careful refinement rather than wholesale reinvention.
A subtly revised vintage magnetic stagger improves balance across the wound strings while preserving the sweetness and articulation of the plain strings, creating a remarkably even response across the entire fingerboard.
The set is fully calibrated, with a slightly hotter bridge pickup providing additional bite, presence and authority whilst remaining unmistakably vintage in character.
