Where the S-Type Story Began

    Quantity

The Eternal “Sophia” is our tribute to the revolutionary solid-body electric guitar designs that emerged in 1954. Built to capture the spirit, tone and tactile feel of those earliest instruments, Sophia blends rare period details with timeless tone and modern boutique craftsmanship. Built around a resonant one-piece ash body and a beautifully worn soft V maple neck, Sophia blends ultra rare period details with timeless tone and inspiring playability.

Open, articulate and alive in the hands, Sophia rewards touch and nuance. Glassy and shimmering when played clean, woody and vocal when pushed, she delivers the unmistakable character of early single coil instruments with the refinement of boutique craftsmanship.

    Body and Finish

Sophia features a carefully selected one-piece lightweight ash body, chosen for its natural resonance and dynamic response. The lightly aged two tone sunburst nitrocellulose lacquer shows subtle wear patterns and authentic lacquer checking, while the thin finish allows the wood to breathe and resonate freely.

    Neck and Feel

The one-piece maple neck is carved to a comfortable soft V profile and finished with gently rounded edges and a lightly worn feel that feels instantly familiar. A vintage correct 7.25 inch radius is paired with 6100 jumbo frets, for an enhanced vintage feel, offering confident bends and smooth playability without sacrificing period character. A hand cut bone nut ensures clarity, tuning stability and sustain.

    Period Correct Details

Ultra rare short skirt control knobs and the distinctive football switch tip nod to early production oddities and pre standardisation details. A one ply white pickguard with matching aged covers and rear cavity plate completes the look, while aged Kluson single line split post tuners remain true to early 1950s specification.

    Timeless ’54 Pickups

Our Timeless ’54 pickups are hand wound to capture the voice of early low output single coils. Alnico III magnets with correct vintage stagger, lacquer insulated flatwork and 42 AWG Heavy Formvar coil wire are combined with black paraffin wax potting to retain a controlled microphonic bloom. Wound in the same direction with no reverse wound middle, they remain faithful to original specification.

Expect glassy highs, an open midrange and woody, percussive lows. From shimmering cleans to dynamic rhythm work and expressive leads, Sophia responds effortlessly to the player.

    Hardware and Electronics

High quality, period correct components are used throughout. CTS 250k brass collar pots, a CRL 5 way selector switch and a repro “Phone Book” paper in oil capacitor are wired with cloth covered hook up wire and a Switchcraft output jack. A Callaham vintage style bridge with steel block and bent steel saddles completes the platform, supported by a small aluminium shielding plate for authenticity and performance.
